About the DNS Leak Test

The DNS leak test - the row on our VPN leak-test page and the dedicated DNS leak test page - works by asking your browser to look up a unique, single-use hostname on a domain we operate the nameserver for. Whichever DNS resolver your device uses must ask us about that hostname, and we record the address it asks from. That address identifies the resolver, which on some networks is your own router or your internet provider's server.

What this means in practice:

• We see only the resolvers that look up our own test hostname. We never see the other names you look up, and we never see your DNS queries themselves.
• Resolver addresses are held in memory only, discarded within five minutes, and never written to our request logs.
• Results are tied to an unguessable single-use token and are only ever shown to the visitor whose test produced them.
• The test runs only when you open the leak-test page. It runs nowhere else on the site.

Usage Data

We may collect information about how you interact with our service, including:
